Papernshnit

Here is a beautiful little papernshnit artwork. Papernshnit, in case you are wondering, is Polish papercutting, a folk art common in the European shtetles in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. This papernshnit is an illustration in a book called Yiddish Folktales, edited by Bina Weinreich (YIVO, 1988). I had a girlfriend once, an art teacher, who took me to the Matisse paper cut-out show in NYC. I love this art form, whether it's called papernshnit, paper cut-outs, papercutting, or scherenschnitte.
